Photocatalytic cell

We have assembled a photocatalytic cell for the conduction of photocatalytic experiments for the evaluation of photocatalysts. The cell consists of a magnetic stirrer, a jacketed beaker and a lamp (UV or Vis). These are placed inside a metallic box that ensures dark conditions and lighting originated only from the cell’s lamp. The photocatalytic cell can be used for various photocatalytic reactions that take place in the liquid phase.

The setup is used in combination with a double beamed UV-Vis spectrophotometer for the determination of the reaction progress after different time equivalents. One of our common photocatalytic reactions we are using for monitoring of the photocatalysts’ efficiency is degradation of methylene blue.
